FOIA - Requests
The Long County Sheriff's Office processes all Freedom of Information Requests in accordance with the Georgia Open Records Act (O.C.G.A. § 50-18-70 et seq.).

Three-Day Response: Per O.C.G.A. § 50-18-71, the Sheriff's Office will provide a response within three (3) business days of receiving your request.

Exemptions: Under O.C.G.A. § 50-18-72 and applicable federal privacy laws (such as the Driver's Privacy Protection Act), certain information may be redacted or denied. This includes, but is not limited to:

Sensitive personal identifiers (SSNs, financial data, etc.) to prevent fraud.

Records pertaining to active/pending investigations or prosecutions.

Records involving juveniles.

Medical records or other information protected by state or federal privacy statutes.

Denials: If a request is denied in whole or in part, a written explanation citing the specific legal authority for the exemption will be provided within three business days.
Fees and Administrative Costs
The Long County Sheriff's Office may charge reasonable fees for the search, retrieval, redaction, and production of records.

Labor Rates: Fees are calculated based on the hourly rate of the lowest-paid full-time employee with the necessary skill and training to respond to the request.

First 15 Minutes: There is no charge for the first 15 minutes of employee time.

Estimated Cost: An estimate will be provided before records are produced.

Obligation to Pay: For large orders, once production is authorized, the requestor is legally obligated to pay the administrative costs even if the request is later withdrawn or the records are not picked up.
Notice Regarding Booking Photos (Mugshots)
Please be advised that the Long County Sheriff's Office does not currently operate an active jail facility. Because we do not intake or house inmates on-site, we do not generate or maintain booking photos (mugshots).

To obtain a booking photo: You must contact the specific detention facility where the individual was transported and housed.
